First millionth ton of steel was produced at modernized continuous casting machine -2
On March 4, 2015 the first millionth ton of steel was produced at modernized continuous casting machine -2 (CCM -2) of Steel Melting Shop-2 of BMZ. The workers of Electric Steel Melting Shop-2 have reached this result in a year after the reconstruction.
One millionth ton of steel is not only a round figure. This event brings the CCM-2 closer to its design capacity that increased up to 1,2 mln tpy after the modernization.
During the reconstruction that was finished on February, 2014, the complete replacement of existing machine increased steel casting speed to 4,3m/min and made it possible to change promptly the product (to switch from billet section 125x125mm to 140x140 mm), with casting radius from 5 to 8 meters).
As noted above, the results of the first year of CCM-2 operation - commissioning and testing of equipment included – show that CCM-2 produced 1 mln ton of steel, which is the best proof of the equipment potential.
This millionth ton was reached when producing steel as marketable product for ‘Arkas Trading Limited’ (Egypt).
